Print vs Negative Scanning
Just to show the difference between scanning a negative and a positive. Here is a comparison of one of John’s scans of a print on the left and Rob’s scan of his negative on the right. Note that the contrast and clarity of the negative scan is significantly improved over the print scan. In addition, the scan of the negative yields a wider view of the scene. I cannot say exactly where the cropping of the image occurred, but it may well have been when the print was created. Note also that there was some barrel distortion created by the enlarger when the print was created. This can be seen by the way that the centre of the scene appears to move towards the observer as the slider is moved across the scene
Panorama Creation
